Hi everyone, Paul & I are proceeding well with our S-9 kits. What is your experience with the left thrust called for by placing washers under the right side of the mount? Has anyone used 0 side thrust?
The landing gear toe in, toe out debate rages on depending upon the source. One fellow with a "9" used no toe in or out & likes it. A post from Rans suggested that they are now using no toe in or out on the S-7 I believe. This was in response to a question about toe in or out on the S-9. So it would seem that they can't decide. Please wade in & let us know what you used & how it worked out. Thanks, Karl

Karl, I talked to Ed at Rans about this about 2 weeks ago... I asked him specificly if they are just doing this to the S-7's & S-6's. the landing gear on this looks about perpendicular to the fuse while the S-9/10 gear are raked forward. He said that they recently completed an S-9 with zero toe in/out. The affect was that the aircraft was a little more stable in some landing situations... overall better than the previous 1 degree out setting. I am setting my S-10 to Zero. Gregg

The key is not tow in or out or zero. The key is the angle of the tail wheel pin. The spring must be bend down at the rear end so that the pin will look like this, \ when looking at it from the side, and the front of the plane is in --> this direction. If your plane is squirlly and hard to handle upon landing, fix it by heating the spring and bending it down with a big crescent wrench at about 1 1/2 inch from the end to change the angle of the pivot pin.

John,
Yes, this will stop that. Mine did the same thing until I made the change by bending the spring. Be careful and use a welding torch to heat the end and use a big crescent wrench to make the bend.
