Subject: Cowling fit and more

Well guys, my S9 arrived dec 27, 2007 and I am getting ready to cover. I have been working all my free time. It is a lowback, the windshields and canopy are finished and now removed for covering. I installed a canopy lock that is keyed the same as the ignition, (from Aircraft Spruce) right next to the canopy latch and it came out very nice allowing me to lock the canopy when I leave the plane. I have been taking pictures of every step so if anyone needs one for reference just let me know and I will email it to you. I also installed a canopy emergency jettison system which replaces the pivot bolts with stainless pins and allows me to mount the BRS 800 softpack and rocket right behind my seat. That eliminates all the problems routing the bridles. BRS has done tests with blond wigs and fired the rockets right next to them with no burns so if you are wondering, that is not a problem. I am save 141 on the BRS site and a firm believer. Without it I would not be writing this. On the two cowling pieces, I am wondering how much room to leave around the spinner hub. If you place the top and bottom together, the prop hole is very oval and large. It appears to me that I can get the bottom and sides of the bottom half to fit well with about 1 and 1/2 inches evenly around the spinner back plate, which makes the bottom cowl approximately parallel to the top longeron, and the cowling "meeting point" at about the center of the prop hub. This looks to me where it should be but that will require quite a bit of material to be cut from the top half. Is that normal?? Also, the steering arms on the tailwheel hit the boltheads that attach the tailwheel to the flat spring, acting like a "stop". Anyone else had that problem? Lastly, When checking the seat positioning and the rudder pedals, I found that when rapidly switching from right to left rudder (as in spin recovery) my toes got caught behind the "t" shaped brake pedal, so I cut off the inside part of the "T" on both pedals and they seem perfect now . . . just a heads up. Any help on the cowling fit will be greatly appreciated.
